More Patients to lose Medical Rights on July 1

By Adrian Melero Board Certified Acupuncture Physician on July 1st, 2013

Beginning July 1, 2013, all patients with a Cigna plan seeking the services from a chiropractic physician must first seek pre-approval from a non-medical source to determine medical necessity, even before being examined by the chiropractic physician. Cigna has contracted the company ASH to provide the reviews for decision-making. The question here is how can medical necessity be determined without a thorough exam by a qualified health care professional?

Yes, I use Auricular (ear) points with erectlical stimulus, instead of needles. Also, I stimulate the points with vibration (tuning forks) for those sensitive to needles. About 40% of my practice is children starting at the age of one week, so I use tuning forks daily for specific protocols.
