Functional Medicine (Autism Specialist)

What is Functional Medicine?

It is a practice that focuses on getting to the root cause of the problem by doing a thorough in depth review on the optimal functioning of the body organs and usually involves combining systems of holistic or alternative medicine. It is science-based.

The focus is usually on interactions between the environment and the gastrointestinal, endocrine (hormones), and immune systems. Evaluations and treatment plans are individualized and often involves very specialized lab testing.

The most common conditions seen by functional medicine are autoimmune-inflammatory, autism, IBS, among other conditions and treatments involve mostly natural non-pharmaceutical supplements that support specific body function, eliminating offending toxin/ pathogen, and dietary intervention.

At The Healing Palace, the process for getting started with functional medicine is by filling a packet with complete health history questionnaires and submitting past medical history documentation and tests. Your practitioner will extensively review and investigate your particular case prior to seeing you on the first appointment. On the first appointment, usually an hour face to face, your practitioner will afford you the opportunity to discuss your condition and symptoms details thoroughly.

The next step, if warranted, would be to select the appropriate testing to assess and confirm what is occurring in your body to affect your condition. And then finally, in a follow up visit, an effective form of treatment will be implemented.
